Allocated Physical Education Time

  • Kindergarten to Grade 6: 10% instructional time suggested (150 minutes/week)
  • Grade 7-9: 75 hours/year suggested
  • High School: students must complete a 3 credit course in Grade 10 prior to graduation

Daily Physical Activity

  • Grade 1-9: students are to be physically active for a minimum of 30 minutes dailythrough activities that are organized by the school

Varies across the province: approximately 120-150 minutes/week

  • Wellness education nurtures the whole child and enhances students' capacity for achieving their full potential—intellectually, physically, socially, spiritually and emotionally.  Revisions to the current K–12 programs of study will begin at the high school level with the development of Health and Physical Education (HPE) 10–20–30 programs of study.  Implementation is scheduled to begin in 2014–2015.
  • Continuing challenge to have physical education specialists particularly in elementary education.
