Details
Although many books are available for physical and health education teachers and teacher education students, most tend to focus on specific lesson planning and teaching techniques. Stones in the Sneaker: Active Theory for Secondary School Physical and Health Educators emphasizes the fundamental theoretical and pedagogical issues that regularly occur in physical and health education. Though focused on the secondary level, the topics discussed by the contributors to this edited volume also have application to elementary schools. The editors have assembled a team of university professors from across Canada to place these issues of pedagogical interest within a contemporary research context. The book's scope is broad and socially inclusive. Topics discussed include, among others;
- health literacy;
- the physical education experiences of students with disabilities;
- culturally relevant physical education;
- the role of competition and fair play, action research in physical education;
- culturally appropriate physical and health education for aboriginal youth;
- masculinity in physical and health education;
- sexual harassment; risk management and the law in physical and health education; and
- human rights and the law in physical and health education.
