Details

Adapt, Adopt and Improve was written for a variety of reasons, including:
  • to provide game ideas for intramurals, P.E. and the classroom;
  • to provide motivational activity themes;
  • to help teachers adapt classroom subjects to gym activities and vice versa;
  • to encourage creativity with subject matter; and
  • to help make learning fun.
The games and themes of this book are meant to be adapted to suit your program, adopted for use in gym and classroom settings, and improved by experimenting with changes, embellishments, and extensions, using your own ideas and those of the children. The chapters are divided into monthly themes for descriptive not prescriptive purposes. ‘Novembear' has a ‘Bear' theme, but you could have ‘Febearuary', ‘Febru-beary', ‘March of Bears', ‘Bear Week', ‘Bear Day' or a ‘Bear Facts' unit of any time length. Many of the games described have their roots in traditional games such as tag and hide and seek. But for children, when tag is no longer ‘tag' but becomes ‘Pack-man', when learning the geography of South America becomes a treasure hunt, physical activity and classroom learning take on a new enthusiasm.
