The Council of University Professors and Researchers (CUPR), a Council under the auspices of Physical and Health Education Canada (PHE Canada) is seeking a MANAGING EDITOR, or EDITING TEAM, for the on-line PHEnex Journal/Revue phénEPS.
CUPR is the national Canadian organization of post-secondary physical and health education scholars and researchers whose primary focus is to provide a forum where research and pedagogical applications in the fields of physical education, health, dance, sport and community recreation and leisure may be shared. PHE Canada is a national, charitable, voluntary-sector organization whose primary concern is to influence the healthy development of children and youth by advocating for quality, school-based physical and health education. PHE Canada advocates and educates for quality physical and health education programs within supportive school and community environments. PHEnex Journal/Revue phénEPS is a scholarly, on-line, open-access, peer-reviewed journal that is published three times a year. The journal is bi-lingual and reviews and publishes articles in both English and French.
PHEnex Journal/Revue phénEPS publishes empirical, theoretical, and methodological research, and position papers, as well as reviews and critical essays by Canadian and International authors. Research methodologies may be quantitative, qualitative or mixed method and may use data gathered through historical analysis, surveys, fieldwork, action research, participant observation, content analysis, simulations or experience. Articles most appropriate for this journal focus on pedagogical, social, cultural, philosophical, psychological, historical, and sociological or management issues in physical education, health, dance, recreation, or leisure studies.
The candidate or editing team who applies will be dynamic and well-organized with strong communication skills and the ability to multi-task. Expertise in Physical and Health Education or related areas is a considerable asset.
The selected candidate may reside anywhere in Canada and will work closely with the journal's Web Technician, the English Language Editor and the French Language Editor. The selected candidate will be expected to work with the outgoing Managing Editor on the Vol. 4 No. 1 (March 2012) issue and to take over full responsibility for the position for Vol. 4, No. 2 (July 2012) issue.
* PHEnex Journal/Revue phénEPS Editorial Board is interested in applications from interested candidates, but also welcomes applications from editing teams.
Responsibilities:
- Managing the PHEnex Journal/Revue phénEPS in collaboration with the Acadia University Library's Web Technician
- Producing three (3) issues of the PHEnex Journal/Revue phénEPS each year through the following processes:
- Assigning articles to the English Language and French Language editors and appropriate Section Editors;
- Transforming the copyedited versions of submissions into galleys in PDF in consultant with the authors
- Creating the journal issues
- Scheduling submissions for publication
- Arranging the Table of Contents
- Publishing the issue
- Involvement with long-term journal planning
- Providing input into promotion planning campaigns
- Participating in the Editorial Review Board
- Liaising with PHE Canada Board of Directors or Program Advisory Committees on journal-related issues (as required)

Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in the area of education, health, sport and recreation, communications, journalism, or related discipline; Ph.D. or Ed.D. (or near completion) is an asset
- Ability to manage multiple tasks
- Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Office, email, Internet and web-based technology
- Excellent knowledge and/or work experience within the education, health, sport and recreation sectors
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills
- Self-starter(s) and ability to work independently
- Bilingualism is an asset
