PHE Canada Research Council Forum: Call for Abstracts

Academics, Graduate Students & Practitioners - Submit an Abstract Today! 

The Physical and Health Education Canada (PHE Canada) Research Council is a network of professors, researchers, graduate students, and practitioners. The role of the Resarch Council is to:

  • provide a collaborative and coherent voice for scholars and professionals in the fields of PHE teaching and research in Canada and internationally;
  • offer a forum to disseminate and encourage the advancement of knowledge;
  • support the ongoing development of current & prospective graduate students; 
  • facilitate research interests and connections.

The PHE Canada Research Council Forum is held annually in conjunction with PHE Canada’s National Physical and Health Education Conference. The Research Council Forum provides a convening opportunity for academics, graduate students and practitioners with a common interest in Physical and Health Education to come together to share current research, discuss issues and topics of relevance, and to establish and nurture professional networks.

The Research Council Forum will be held on Thursday, May 17th, 2018 in Whistler, BC. Academics, graduate students and practitioners are invited to submit an abstract for presentation.

*NEW this year - the Research Council Forum Planning Committee is accepting proposals for Knowledge Mobilization session presentations. These peer-reviewed session presentations will be integrated into the main PHE Canada Physical and Health Education Conference program and will be delivered on Friday, May 18th.

Abstracts are to be submitted online, and must be received by January 12th, 2018. Potential presenters will be informed about the status of their submission 2-3 weeks after deadline.

Please note that:

  • ALL abstract proposals will be assessed via a blind peer-review.
  • Presenters must be a PHE Canada Research Council member in good standing. You can check your PHE Canada Research Council membership status by emailing your request to ResearchCouncil@phecanada.ca.
  • All presenters (including co-presenters) are required to register online as a delegate for the Research Council Forum.
  • Presenters may submit only one proposal for which they are the lead author.
  • Audiovisual equipment (LCD projector and laptop) will be provided.
  • Presenters are required to identify and rank their preferred session format:
    • Oral presentation are 12 minutes in length followed by 3 minutes for questions.
    • Round table presentations involve open discussion and are 20 minutes in length.
    • Poster presentations are 60 minutes in length.
    • Knowledge Mobilization session presentations are 45 minutes in length followed by 10 minutes for questions. Knowledge Mobilization session presentations will take place on Friday, May 18th, 2018.

  • I understand that should any circumstances arise prior to the Research Council Forum date that prevents me from delivering my presentation, I will immediately contact the Research Council Forum organizers.
  • I understand that I will move out of my presentation space quickly at the end of my session, as the next the presenter will be moving into this location
  • I understand that all presenters and co-presenters are expected to register as a Research Council Forum delegate.
  • I understand that if I am chosen to deliver a Knowledge Mobilization session presentation that the session will occur on Friday, May 18th.
  • I understand that all presenters must be a PHE Canada Research Council member in good standing.
  • I will take all reasonable precautions/actions to ensure the dignity and safety of the delegates who attend my session.
  • I will abide by all venue/facility requirements and take all reasonable precautions/actions to deter any damage to the venue/facility. Should any damage to the venue/facility occur as direct result of my session activity (setup, during, or tear down) I will be responsible for the costs to repair those damages.
