Half-Day Sessions

Leading the Way - Student Leadership (9 am - 12 pm)
Studley Gymnasium Building - Studio

PHE Canada has created a series of youth leadership training opportunities for senior elementary, secondary and post secondary settings. This certification model will provide participants with the ability to become a trainer of the workshops allowing students who then take the course from the trainer to hold a national certification in leadership.

Creative Movement Through Cultural Dance (1 pm - 4 pm)
Studley Gymnasium Building - Studio

Many teachers have a comfortable repertoire of cultural and folk dances that they have been teaching for years. These dances are participatory, fun, and they address many fundamental movement skills. They do not, however, allow opportunities for creation and choreography, opportunities which our curriculum documents are increasingly asking us to provide to students. How can we bring the two together? What strategies and structures can we use to bring folk and cultural dances into the paradigm of student-centered dance creation? This half-day workshop will address these questions and more, leaving teachers with an enhanced toolbox of strategies and ideas for teaching dance.
