Please note that Accommodations are not included in the registration fees. Delegates are to make their own accommodation arrangements.

The Lord Nelson Hotel & Suites

Offers 2012 National Conference delegates a SPECIAL GUEST DISCOUNT. The Lord Nelson Hotel is located in downtown Halifax, and within easy walking distance to the conference at Dalhousie University. Hotel guests are also just steps to the vibrant shopping, dining and entertainment of Halifax’s popular Spring Garden Road area. Halifax’s picturesque waterfront, universities and hospitals are also all within easy walking distance.

Rate and Reservation information:

  • $159.00 for single or double occupancy, until Monday, March 26, 2012.
  • After this date, accommodation spots will be based on availability.
  • Each additional adult in the same room is an extra $20.00.
  • All rates are subject to applicable taxes.
  • Parking is available for $20.00 including taxes per night.
  • No charge for local phone call, 1-800 and calling card access.
  • High speed internet is complimentary in all guest rooms.

Delegates can also book online.  Under Group Options, choose "Make Reservation", then select the dates of your stay.  When the price is indicated, it includes the taxes.

Dalhousie University 

Offers accommodations at Howe Hall on campus for 2012 National Conference delegates. 

Rate and Reservation information:

  • $44.63 for single adult and $29.15 for single student occupancy, until Friday, March 9, 2012.
  • After this date, accommodation spots will be based on availability.
  • Rooms include towels and bedding, and shared washroom facilities.
  • Student ID is required upon check-in for student rate.
  • Parking permits may be purchased at the front desk.

Travel

Air Transportation

The Halifax Stanfield International Airport is the Atlantic Canadian centre for domestic, regional and international flight service. With over 650 flights a week, you can travel by air to Halifax on direct flights from many Canadian, U.S., European, and Caribbean destinations. Add to that hundreds more connecting flights and it's easy to get to Halifax from just about anywhere in the world.

There are over 18 daily flights from Toronto (fly time 2 hours), 8 from Montreal (fly time 1.5 hours) and 9 from Ottawa (fly time 1.75 hours). Halifax is geographically closer to Boston (fly time 1.45 hours) and New York (fly time 2.25 hours) than any other Canadian city and over one hour closer to Europe than any other major North American city.

Airport Shuttle - If you are arriving by air, Airporter Inc. provides shuttle service from the Halifax Stanfield International Airport to Halifax hotels. 2011 rates:

  • One Way Fare ~ $19.50 (includes HST)
  • Return Fare ~ $36.00 (includes HST)

Airport Taxi - Most taxi companies servicing the airport charge a flat rate of $60.00 to travel to the city.

Ground Transportation

Dalhousie University is located in the south end of Halifax, about a 30 minute drive from the airport, and a 15 minute walk to downtown. It is close to great shopping, restaurants, entertainment and hotels. For more information, please visit the Destination Halifax website.

The Trans Canada Highway enters Nova Scotia from New Brunswick, and provides a connection to all points in the continental United States and Canada. The Confederation Bridge links Prince Edward Island to New Brunswick and then Nova Scotia by that same highway system. Halifax travel alternatives include various coach companies from New York and Montreal and other parts of Nova Scotia.
