Promote programs, products, and initiatives directly to your target audience with School Zone Marketing

Reach over 15,000 schools across Canada through the PHE Canada School Zone Marketing Program.

PHE Canada coordinates the school mail out twice yearly. This shared mailing provides a lower cost opportunity to promote your programs and resources to schools.

Who: Public and private sector educational, recreational and sport organizations; product and equipment manufacturers and program organizers.

When: October and April (Negotiate a specialized mailing at any time of the year)

Target Audience

Participants can select the appropriate School Zone target audience.

Audiences:

School Boards
Elementary Schools
Middle Schools
Secondary Schools
Post-Secondary Institutions
All schools and school boards (all English and/or French schools)

Cost

School Zone rates are based on one, 81/2" x 11", 15g flyer / poster / brochure and on the number of schools being targeted. Other dimensions, weights and additional pages can be accommodated and will be priced accordingly. 

Guidelines

  • A cover letter from PHE Canada will accompany all mailings to schools and school boards.
  • All materials must follow the content criteria:
    • Material must primarily be of an education nature (Selling of educational resources is acceptable)
    • Material must be directly related to active and healthy living (e.g., physical activity, health, sport, recreation, physical education, dance, etc.)
    • Material must be geared towards mass participation in physical activity rather than towards high performance / elite sport development
    • Material must be developmentally-appropriate for a school audience
    • Material must use generally accepted terminology when referring to persons with a disability and reflect gender equity
  • Material will have to adhere to the following guidelines in terms of corporate sponsorship:
    • Corporate sponsors should be generally acceptable for children and youth and acceptable for school boards
    • Sponsors' products or services should be safe, health and/or education oriented, environmentally and ecologically desirable

      Note:  some schools will not accept materials with a corporate sponsor's logo or identification

  • Promotional material will have to follow certain criteria in terms of format:
    • Material should be no larger than 8 ½ x 11 (folded size), max weight 15 g
    • Other size dimensions, weights and additional pages can be accommodated and will be priced accordingly   
    • All promotional materials must be provided by participant by the mailing deadline

PHE Canada Process

  • All requests to participate in the School Zone must be received and reviewed by PHE Canada by the deadline advertised
  • During the development phase of the promotional materials, PHE Canada is willing to offer advice on the design and format of the materials to ensure they are appropriate and acceptable to the educational community
  • Participants will be responsible for shipping their materials directly to the designated mailing house
  • Mailing fee must be paid in full to PHE Canada before the date of the mailing.  An invoice identifying total costs will be sent to each participating organization
  • PHE Canada reserves the right to cancel the mailing if less than four organizations commit to participating in it.  In this case, PHE Canada will reimburse the funds to the participants
  • Inclusion of material in these mailings does not imply endorsement of the products or programs by PHE Canada
