Dr. Forsberg is a prairie boy through upbringing, education, place of employment, but most of all – heart. In his personal and professional life he epitomizes R. Tait McKenzie’s professional ideals, service to humanity and dedication to the advancement of knowledge and understanding in the fields of health and physical education.
Nick is currently the Associate Dean of Student Services and Undergraduate Programs in the Faculty of Education at the University of Regina and has taught there nearly twenty years. Prior to this, Nick taught elementary and high school students in Saskatchewan. He obtained his Bachelor of Education and Professional Certificate from the University of Regina, his Master of Science in Education from Northern Illinois University and his Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Alberta.
Nick is committed to the advancement and dissemination of knowledge in our field. He has obtained over $50,000 in funding for his research and has authored numerous articles, edited the On the Move Journal and refereed articles for AVANTE, ERIC and the Journal of Professional Studies. He has given over 60 presentations at professional and public conferences and meetings provincially, nationally and internationally. Nick works to bridge the gap between theory and practice. He was instrumental in revamping the Saskatchewan Annual Conference by adding academic and theoretical content to an activity-based program.
Nick Forsberg has been an Executive Member of the Saskatchewan Physical Education Association, Chair of the Saskatchewan Physical Education Council and an Executive Member of the Saskatchewan Outdoor and Environmental Education Association. He was the President of CAHPERD, served on the Board of Directors for many years, and was the Chair of the Council of Provinces. He was the Co-Chair of the 2005 CAHPERD/SPEA National Conference held in Regina. For Nick’s continued dedication, the province of Saskatchewan recognized him with its most prestigious award in physical education, the Paul Renwick Award. Currently, he is an inspiring mentor at the annual CAHPERD Student Leadership Conference.
Perhaps the most telling compliments come from his students. They all speak of his dedication and commitment to preparing students to become the best physical and health educators possible. His students are overwhelmed by his passion. He promotes an agenda that has a vision, ideals and initiatives that will benefit Canadian children and adults alike.
Mr. President, ladies and gentlemen it is indeed fitting that CAHPERD recognize Dr. Nick Forsberg with the R. Tait McKenzie Award of Honour for his distinguished service to the profession and unremitting zeal in promoting its aims and objects.

U of R Associate Dean to receive national award for advancing health and physical education
